My name is Deborah Peter and I am a fully qualified reflexology practitioner, advanced facial reflexology practitioner, Peer Support worker and hold qualifications in understanding health, nutrition and common health conditions.
I am a Peer Mentor for Hertfordshire Mind Network mental health charity and I am currently a Root Cause Practise Practitioner intern.
I am fully insured and a member of the Association of Reflexologists.
I work with clients from my private and peaceful treatment room in a beautiful rural setting, offering a safe and confidential space for clients to come and explore their physical and mental health issues.
The focus of my work is on how our mental well-being impacts our physical well-being. Our mind and body are part of one vessel and we cannot heal one without the other being affected. It is my belief that a holistic approach to health brings by far the best results.
Humans are designed to live a balanced life of work, play and rest. Sadly this is not the case and many of us find ourselves in a chronic state of stress. Whilst we are built to withstand short bursts of stress and do so very well, we are not made to endure long term stress, also known as being in ‘survival mode’.
The impact of stress is very real, both physically and mentally and can lead to many serious health problems including:-
Reflexology can help with reducing the effect stress has on us by inducing a state of relaxation.
In this state muscular tension is reduced, nerve function and circulation are improved, endorphins (feel-good hormones) are released, and natural sleep patterns are restored.
This in turn reduces your bodys ‘fight or flight’ stress response and overall health and wellbeing is improved.
Many people use Reflexology to help cope with the long term effects of stress as it encourages the body to relax and restores natural balance.
Improves sleep
Helps relieve tension
Aids relaxation
Lifts mood
Helps balance hormones
Promotes happiness
Supports overall well-being
Above are a few of the more common conditions that can be supported through Reflexology. It is usually safe to have Reflexology alongside conventional medicine, but if you are currently having any medical treatment please speak to your GP before booking an appointment.
Facial reflexology has all the benefits of foot reflexology whilst giving you a firmer, more radiant and glowing complexion which has a very positive emotional benefit to many clients.
Facial reflexology focuses on the reflex pressure points of the face which help to stimulate the body’s own healing mechanisms and help improve circulation and nerve conduction, as well encouraging the release of toxins from body via the lymphatic system.
A wonderfully calming and restorative treatment which reduces stress and tension and restores balance in the mind and body.
I am a qualified practitioner in the Bergman Method of Facial Reflexology and trained with award winning facial reflexologist Ziggie Bergman at The London School of Reflexology.
How many treatments will I need?
Everyone is different and the response to Reflexology can be immediate or sometimes take longer than one appointment, but often benefits can be seen after 4-5 sessions. Regular weekly treatments are best for the body properly beginning the self-healing process, and following an initial consultation I will suggest the number of Reflexology sessions I think we should undertake.
What happens in a treatment?
During a reflexology treatment I follow an invisible map of your body, either on your face or feet using a combination of massage and pressure point therapy. The aim is to release blockages that I feel on reflex points, which in turn restores balance to both body and mind.
Reflexology on the feet is performed in a reclined position on a massage couch, facial reflexology is performed whilst lying down.
For either treatment you’ll be made comfortable and relaxed with a comfy pillow, warm blanket and an optional heated eye mask
Does reflexology hurt?
You might find some areas feel sensitive to the touch, but Reflexology does not involve hard pressing in the way something like a sports massage might. As a therapist I will be aware of the status of your feet, noticing how they feel, the temperature and colour. All these things play a part in understanding which areas of your body - as reflected through your feet - require a bit more care and attention.
And don’t worry - reflexology doesn’t tickle! Many clients come to me with ticklish feet or worry about their feet being touched but find they can easily relax and enjoy a reflexology treatment.
Can you diagnose my health problems?
Reflexology cannot diagnose or cure, but during a treatment I may identify particular areas of sensitivity which may reflect an area of the body that is struggling or working harder to maintain your well-being. I will discuss any areas of sensitivity that I find with you at the end of your treatment.
What are your fees & availability?
Clients are kindly requested to give 48 hrs notice of cancellation. Cancellations of less that 24 hrs will be charged in full - thank you.
